Twins slugger Josh Willingham hit a two-run home run in the eighth to put Minnesota ahead for good, as the Twins beat the Athletics 4-3 at Target Field last night. The upper deck blast was Willingham’s second homer of the game. Oswaldo Arcia also went deep for Minnesota, which has won two straight. Anthony Swarzak picked up the win in relief and Glen Perkins notched his 34th save. Alberto Callaspo lifted a two-run shot for Oakland, which saw its three-game win streak end. Ryan Cook suffered the loss in relief.
Twins Continue Series With A’s
The Twins continue their three-game series with the Athletics tonight at Target Field. Mike Pelfrey takes the mound for Minnesota. He is 5-and-11 with a 4.97 ERA in 26 starts this season. The A’s will counter with rookie right-hander Sonny Gray, who is 2-and-3 with a 2.51 ERA.
Twins Release ’14 Slate
The Minnesota Twins 2014 schedule is out and the team will open the season on the road next year at Chicago on March 31st. The home opener in 2014 will be against the Oakland Athletics on April 7th. Minnesota is slated to play 20 interleague series during 2014, including the traditional home-and-home matchup against border rival Milwaukee. Other National League teams visiting Target Field next year include the Dodgers, Padres and Diamondbacks. The Twins will also visit N-L ballparks in San Diego, San Francisco, and Colorado. A highlight of the schedule will be a home series against the New York Yankees over the Fourth of July weekend.
