Residents of the Sibley East School District should see a significant decrease in their taxes next year. The Sibley East School Board recently approved a preliminary tax levy for 2014 that is a 14% decrease over this year. The main reason for the lower levy is the increased school funding approved by the Legislature this last session. The amount of overall funding coming to the district is increasing by around $42,000 next year, to $876,000. Of that, a total of $545,000 will be coming from the state, compared to $330,000 the previous year. Other factors in the lower tax levy for Sibley East include lower property market values in the district as well as a slight decline in enrollment.
