Several area fire departments were called back out to a farm in rural Springfield on Monday after a fire that had been extinguished Saturday night re-ignited. Firefighters from Springfield, Sleepy Eye, Comfrey and Darfur responded to the fire at the Jim and Cindy Hillesheim Farm on Brown County Road 100 south of Cobden. They first arrived on the scene at around 4:30pm Saturday, and found a large barn filled with hay totally engulfed in flames. Crews were on the scene until at least midnight, and a Sleepy Eye firefighter suffered heat exhaustion while battling the fire and was taken to the Sleepy Eye Medical Center and treated and released. The fire rekindled at around 2:30 Monday afternoon, and 6 tanker-trucks and pumpers spent the next 5 hours hauling water from nearby Treml Lake as well as fire hydrants in Sleepy Eye and Comfrey. Three buildings were destroyed in the fire, and what started it remains under investigation.
