New Ulm School Board Recap 27 Sep 13

The New Ulm District 88 School Board approved a preliminary tax levy for next year for the district on Thursday. Superintendent Jeff Bertrang says that next year’s levy will be only a .75% increase over this year due to changes in the levy formula at the state level. Bertrang says the changes made by the Legislature include adding money to the funding formula, including all-day kindergarten, and realigning the way levies are calculated. The final levy certification will take place on December 19th. In other business Thursday, the board received the annual report on curriculum and instruction. Bertrang says it dealt with student assessments, teacher practices, student performance based on national standards, and more.  The District 88 School Board also held a 90-day review on Superintendent Bertrang Thursday evening. Board Chair Duane Winter stated that Bertrang “has done a great job of listening, staying focused, holding staff accountable and delegating.”
