The US Department of Veterans Affairs has awarded Minnesota a $10-million grant to establish a new State Veterans Cemetery in Preston. Southern Minnesota Congressman Tim Walz says that the federal funds will cover 100% of the costs and construction. Walz says this is big news for more than 51,000 eligible Minnesota veterans and their families. Walz and the chairman of the House Subcommittee on Memorial Affairs held a bipartisan field hearing in Preston last year. Work is underway to also establish a veterans cemetery near Redwood Falls, but suitable land has not yet been found.
