The South Central Minnesota Chapter of the American Red Cross has sent several volunteers and a dozen Emergency Response Vehicles to Colorado to assist with emergency relief after record flooding. Approximately 11,750 Colorado residents have now been evacuated from their homes, with many staying in one of the 14 shelters set up around the state. The American Red Cross has served more than 10,000 meals as part of the relief effort, has distributed more than 500 bulk items such a clean-up kits and mops, and had more than 1,700 health and mental health contacts. Southern Minnesota Red Cross volunteers are helping with feeding, damage assessment and mental health. Red Cross workers are also helping with flood relief efforts in Texas and New Mexico, where more than 1,500 meals have been served since Monday night’s flooding.
