Street Sweeper Crash Victim Dies 13 Sep 13

A Belle Plaine man who was seriously injured when a semi-truck collided with his street sweeper near Lake Crystal last week has died from his injuries. The eastbound lanes of Highway 60 were closed for several hours last Thursday following the crash, which happened at around 1:40pm. 53-year old Thomas Cody of Belle Plaine was driving the street sweeper for the St. Peter-based contractor Cody & Sons at the time of the crash. He was heading eastbound on 60 when an eastbound Peterbilt semi collided with the sweeper and it rolled into the median. Cody was flown to St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester with serious injuries, and his family says that he passed away this Thursday afternoon. The driver of the semi, 25-year old Justin Grimmius of Lake Wilson was not injured in the crash.
