Wrongfully Obtaining Assistance Sentence 15 Aug 13

A Sleepy Eye woman charged with felony theft for wrongfully obtaining public assistance was sentenced to 5 years of supervised probation this week in Brown County Court. 39-year-old Trina Hoffman was accused of collecting around $3,000 worth of food support and medical assistance payments over an approximately one-year period for a child that was not living with her at the time. She was sentenced to 30 days in jail for the crime, but that will be waived if she pays off her restitution by February of 2015. The charge against her will be dismissed if she successfully completes her probation as well.
