The city halls in Amboy and Vernon Center were burglarized over the weekend, and authorities believe the crimes may have been part of a recent string of burglaries across southern Minnesota. The 2 buildings were broken into at some point between late Friday afternoon and early Monday morning, and cash was stolen in both cases. Authorities had been investigating a burglary at the Crystal Valley Co-Op grain elevator in Vernon Center when the city hall burglaries were reported Monday morning. It wasn’t long before they learned that other cities west and south of Blue Earth County had also reported burglaries in which cash was stolen, including at grain elevators, lumber yards and another city hall. Those details have not been released because the crimes remain under investigation. Anyone with information on any of these incidents is asked to contact their local authorities.
