Special Session Meeting Today 16 Aug 13

Governor Dayton and legislative leaders meet behind closed doors this (FRI) afternoon at the Capitol to try to agree on the agenda for a special session on storm relief planned for early September.  Republicans are pushing hard to not only deal with storm relief but also repeal a number of business-to-business taxes they say Democrats mistakenly approved earlier this year. Governor Dayton has agreed to canceling a new sales tax on farm equipment repairs, but House Republican Minority Leader Kurt Daudt says that the other business taxes worth around $314-million should be on the chopping block as well. Opponents ask what Republicans plan to cut to plug the hole in the state budget that would be caused by repealing those business taxes.
