A wanted sex offender has been arrested near Fairfax. 52-year-old Rommel Heinrich Fritz was released from the Rush City prison in June after serving a 14-year prison sentence for kidnapping and sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl and molesting other underage victims in Pine County. After his release, Fritz was designated a Level 3 Predatory Offender and placed on intense supervised release. He had been living at a rural residence near Sandstone in northern Minnesota, but a warrant was issued for his arrest last week after he failed to check in with his supervising corrections agent and it was discovered that he was no longer at the residence. The department of corrections says that tips from the public led authorities to a remote campsite near Fairfax Tuesday evening, where Fritz was found and taken into custody without incident.
