Redwood Falls Bridge Renovation 28 Aug 13

The restoration of the nearly-75-year-old swayback bridge in Redwood Falls is underway. The Ramsey Park bridge was designed to withstand flooding by allowing floodwaters to flow over the top of it, but the many years of high water had taken their toll in recent years and the bridge was closed to vehicular traffic. This month Redwood County began a $670,000 project to refurbish the bridge, with step one being to tear out and replace the original 10-inch thick concrete bridge deck. A portion of the funds for the project came from the Minnesota Historical Society, with one of the requirements being that the bridge be restored as closely to it’s original 1939 condition as possible.
