The New Ulm Area Emergency Food Shelf recently honored the New Ulm Wal-Mart store for it’s outstanding help to the local food shelf over the years. Since June of 2009, Wal-Mart has donated the equivalent of 408,662 meals through the Food Rescue program. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, the New Ulm Food Shelf sends two vehicles to Wal-Mart to pick up dated bakery, produce and meat products. The food shelf also receives Food Rescue donations from CashWise, Target, Kwik Trip and Hy-Vee in New Ulm. Since the program started, the New Ulm Area Emergency Food Shelf has more than doubled the amount of food given to needy families.
