The New Ulm Public Utilities Commission on Tuesday learned that the construction of a new water tower in the city’s Nehl’s Park is slightly behind schedule. PUC Planning and Development Engineer Pat Wrase says that the contractors are around 20 days behind on the $1.4-million project because they’ve been delayed by weather on another project in the lower Midwest. The deadline for the new water tower to be completed is August 1st, 2014. It will replace the aging and leaky Hermann Heights Water Tower, and also provide additional storage for the New Ulm hilltop area. The tower near Hermann the German will be torn down after work on the new one is done. Construction crews are expected to begin actually erecting the new tower at Nehl’s Park on September 16th.
