Catfish Derby Days festivities were held over the weekend in the City of Franklin, and the community crowned new royalty as part of the annual celebration. The new Miss Franklin and “Queen of Catfish Derby Days” is Andrea Ochs. Crowned Catfish Derby Days Princess was Katelyn Fjeld. Numerous events were held throughout the weekend in Franklin as part of the festival, including the annual Fishing Contest. This year’s winner was Steve Fisher of South Haven, who caught a Catfish Derby Days record-setting catfish that weighed in at 52-pounds-5-ounces. The previous record had been a 49-pounder caught in 2006.

Thousands of pounds of free watermelon was consumed in the City of Sanborn this week as part of the community’s annual Watermelon Days festivities, and new Watermelon Royalty was crowned as well. The 2013 Sanborn Watermelon Queen is 17-year-old Amy Davis, the daughter of Shawn and Wende Davis. She will be a junior st Springfield High School this coming school year. Crowned Watermelon Princess was Rachel Stark, the daughter of Bradley and Elen Stark. She’s going to be a senior at MVL. And named Little Miss Watermelon was Chelsey Havemeier, the daughter of Tara Havemeier and Jacob Roiger.
