Two 17-year-old boys are facing multiple felony charges for their recent escape from a juvenile treatment facility in Elmore, and more information has now been released. Garrett Zabel and Roberto Reyes reportedly fled from the Faribault County facility on August 10th. They are then accused of stealing a truck and colliding with multiple police squad cars during the ensuing car chase, which reportedly reached speeds of more than 90 miles-per-hour. The boys were later arrested near Vernon Center after escaping on foot. Newly-released court documents say that both boys planned the escape together, in part because Reyes believed he was going to be sent to an 8-month correctional program. They have each been charged with 3 felonies, and are scheduled to be back in court on September 9th.
