A local area dairy farm couple received a prestigious award at the Minnesota State Fair this week. Paul and Melanie Fritsche of rural New Ulm received the “Elgin Award.” The award is given to breeders who are passionate about the dairy industry, exhibit sportsmanship and enjoy showing cattle. The Elgin Award was started in 2006 in memory and honor of Karl Mueller of Arlington, a long time registered Holstein Breeder who received numerous awards for his accomplishments, including being inducted into the Minnesota Livestock Breeders Hall of Fame with his brother John. The Fritsches milk Guernseys. In addition to the award presented to them during the State Fair Open Class Show, they also had the Grand Champion of the show, as well as the Honorable Mention Grand Champion and Reserve Senior Champion. A total of 78 head were exhibited.
