The New Ulm Area Chamber of Commerce has released a Highway 14 – Minnesota State Fair themed cartoon as the quest to fund the 4-lane expansion of the highway to New Ulm continues. The cartoon depicts the yellow lane delineators on Highway 14 from New Ulm to Mankato which were installed as an interim safety project by the Minnesota Department of Transportation in July of 2012. The only four-lane expansion project of the highway included in Mn/DOT’s draft 20-year State Highway Investment Plan is the portion from North Mankato to Nicollet, which is scheduled for completion in 2018. A bypass around Nicollet, the continued 4-lane expansion west to New Ulm, and a Highway 14-15 interchange remain unfunded by the state. The cost of completing these projects is estimated at anywhere from $116-$223-million.
