Extreme Speeder Identified 09 Aug 13

The State Patrol announced the results of a recent crackdown on speeding this week, including the fact that one man was ticketed for driving 148 miles-per-hour. Officials say that it was a 41-year-old Darwin man driving a souped-up Ford Mustang GT on a county road just outside Hutchinson. Richard Bernhagen was stopped by a trooper working in the State Patrol’s Mankato District, and when asked about his excessive speed he reportedly said that the Mustang had not been driven in a while and he was “airing it out.” Bernhagen was one of the more-than 17,000 motorists stopped for speeding during the July enforcement campaign. Officials say that speed is the biggest factor in fatal crashes.
