Deal Reached For Theft By Swindle 15 Aug 13

A Kasota woman accused of theft by swindle and fraud reportedly reached a deal with prosecutors this week. 60-year-old Ruth Ann Dutler allegedly took hundreds of thousands of dollars from her brother to buy back her foreclosed home. In exchange, her brother believed that the deed to the historic home on Highway 22 south of St. Peter would be put in his name. Dutler’s attorney says that it was all a big misunderstanding, and that she thought it was a loan. The brother reported the incident to the Le Sueur County Sheriff’s Office in December, and the home was destroyed by a fire in January. Under the terms of the agreement, Dutler will deposit $300,000 with the court before her next court appearance on September 3rd. If she does that, the money will go to her brother and there will be no plea, no jail time, and no more charges against her.
