Vehicular Homicide Plea Deal 30 Jul 13

A 22-year-old Cokato man facing over a dozen felony charges for a car crash that killed 3 people last year avoided a jury trial this week by pleading guilty to 3 counts of criminal vehicular homicide. Paul Anthony Wickenhauser had been charged with 15 felony counts for the triple-fatality east of Willmar last August. A 68-year-old Atwater woman and her daughter-in-law and 8-year-old grandchild were all killed in the head-on crash, and a 5-year-old was seriously injured. Wickenhauser had reportedly been drinking prior to the crash, and was over the legal limit for driving when it occurred. His trial had been scheduled to start today (TUE). As part of the plea agreement 12 additional felony charges, and one misdemeanor for open bottle, will be dismissed. His sentencing is scheduled for August 9th.
