An Albert Lea man escaped uninjured after the small plane he was piloting crashed in a corn field just southeast of Beauford in Blue Earth County Tuesday. Lucas Elliott Schuster was flying a four-seat Piper Tri-Pacer plane when the plane’s engine lost power. Authorities say Schuster tried to land on the highway but ended up in the cornfield. The plane flipped on its top during the crash. A passenger, Jeremiah Schuster was also not injured. The two had reportedly planned a scenic flight around the area. Lucas Schuster called the Blue Earth County Sheriff’s Department after the crash but reached a number that went to voicemail so authorities didn’t respond until Wednesday morning. The plane was severely damaged and was a total loss. The FAA will investigate, however the Blue Earth County Sheriff’s Office says there isn’t any more to investigate on their end.
