An Elk River man in prison for killing the mother of his daughter in Kasota nearly 3 years ago wants to keep his parental rights. Tyler Wicklund is serving a life sentence for slitting the throat of 20-year-old Jessica Buboltz in her Kasota apartment. Their 1-year old daughter was inside the home when it happened. Buboltz’s mother Dawn Buboltz is now raising the girl and wants to adopt her, but Wicklund’s attorney argues his actions don’t make him an unfit parent. He wants the freedom to send the girl letters and talk to her on the phone from behind bars. The grandmother is fighting that. A judge is expected to make a decision in September. Wicklund could be eligible for parole in 30 years.
