Wild Sign Backstrom, Tour Continues 25 Jun 13

The Minnesota Wild and starting goaltender Niklas Backstrom have agreed to a three-year contract extension.  Thirty-five-year-old Backstrom went 24-15-and-3 in 2013 with a 2.48 goals against average and two shutouts.  The native of Helsinki, Finland was injured during warmups in Game One of the N-H-L playoffs in Chicago and did not appear in the postseason for Minnesota.  Backstrom underwent successful sports hernia surgery last month and is expected to be ready for the start of the 2013-2014 season.  He was set to become a free agent next week.  Minnesota general manager Chuck Fletcher called the signing the top priority for his team this offseason.
