Severe storms rolled across Minnesota early Friday morning and again Friday evening, bringing strong winds, heavy rains, and even some hail. There was an 85 mile-per-hour wind gust reported in Benson in western Minnesota early Friday. There were also numerous reports of branches down and trees up-rooted, as well as downed power lines from both storms, with hundreds of thousands of homes losing power. A tornado was spotted near Tracy at around 5:15 Friday evening, and that storm dumped a couple inches of rain on many locations as it moved across the area. As of Saturday morning, more than a million Minnesotans were reportedly without electrical service.
