The State Independence Party re-elected chair Mark Jenkins at its convention in St. Cloud this past weekend, and ratified the decision to lift the party’s current ban on accepting PAC money. A call for a constitutionally balanced state budget also received overwhelming support–with the party going so far as to promise a lawsuit if the budget isn’t balanced by the December 1st deadline. Jenkins says the convention signals a new direction for the party, calling it a turning point to go from just being the intellectual party with good, reasoned solutions, to an intellectual, reasoned party that’s now willing to take action. Delegates also voted to add support of the legalization of marijuana as part of the Minnesota Independence Party platform.
