Lightning Safety Awareness Week 26 Jun 13

It’s Lightning Safety Awareness Week, and the theme of the week is “When Thunder Roars, Go Indoors.” National Weather Service Meteorologist Michelle Margraf says trees are the worst place to go for protection from lightning, because they are likely to get struck themselves. She says it’s important to be aware because lightning can even strike in areas where it’s not raining yet. A total of 13 people have been killed by lightning in the US so far this year.
