Flood warnings and watches remain in effect around the local area following the recent heavy rains. A Flood Warning is in effect for the Redwood River at Redwood Falls until Thursday afternoon. Minor flooding is occurring there, with the river expected to crest at just-over flood stage tonight (WED). Flood Watches are in effect for the Minnesota River at Montevideo, Henderson, Jordan and Savage until further notice as well. The river is expected to crest by the end of the week in many locations, unless more rain falls in the next few days. The US Army Corps of Engineers will also be increasing the outflow from the Lac Qui Parle Dam near Montevideo on today, which will result in stronger currents and more debris in both the Minnesota and Lac Qui Parle Rivers in the coming days.
The recent heavy rainfall around the area has caused the closure of some Renville County parks. As of Tuesday, the following parks in Renville County are closed until further notice: Mack Lake, Anderson Lake, the south side of Beaver Falls County Park, the Sacred Heart Creek area of Vicksburg County Park, and the west side of Skalbekken Park. County officials say that if the Minnesota River continues to rise, as predicted, Vicksburg and Skalbekken County Parks will be closed completely. For park closure updates contact the Renville County Parks Department.
A recently-flooded section of Highway 93 near Henderson reopened to traffic Tuesday afternoon. The section of highway from Highway 169 to Highway 19 near Henderson had been closed since Sunday evening due to flooding from recent heavy rains.
