Farm Bill Vote Likely Today 10 Jun 13

The US Senate is scheduled to vote on the Farm Bill later today (MON). Former Ag Secretary and now Senator from Nebraska Mike Johanns says it not the kind of bill he would have written, but that it’s better that no farm bill. The biggest change in this farm bill from years past is the elimination of direct payments the federal government gives to farmers, even when their yields are high. It instead includes a “risk management system” that supports farmers only when they are hurt by weather disasters or fluctuating commodity prices.
