A toddler from Buffalo Lake is safe at home after wandering away earlier this week, leading to a massive search operation. The almost-3-year-old was apparently sleepwalking when she got up in the middle of the night and disappeared. The girl’s parents found their home’s back door open after discovering that the girl was missing at around 3am. Numerous organizations were involved in the ensuing search, including the Buffalo Lake and Hector Police Departments, the Renville County Sheriff’s Office, ambulance crews and firefighters from several towns, and a Minnesota State Patrol helicopter. The girl was found safe and uninjured at a gas station along Highway 212 nearly 5 hours later.
