Motorists are advised to drive with caution on Highway 14 from Nicollet to North Mankato this week as crews replace the yellow delineators down the centerline. The extreme heat on May 13th and high winds caused many of the delineators to fail, and Mn/DOT crews removed them all in the problem area. The delineators will now be secured with bolts to prevent any future problems with extreme temperatures. They were first installed last fall to alert distracted drivers on that stretch of Highway 14, where head-on crashes have been significantly higher than the state average. No head-on crashes have been reported since the safety project was completed. Mn/DOT plans to expand Highway 14 to four lanes from Nicollet to North Mankato in 2017.
Roadwork on Highway 15 from Highway 212 to Hutchinson is scheduled to get underway today (MON). A new roundabout will be built at the intersection of Highway 15 and Airport Road on the south side of Hutchinson as part of the project as well. That intersection will be closed beginning today, and a detour will be in place. The work on Highway 15 also includes the milling of the existing pavement and a bituminous pavement overlay. Portions of the highway under construction will be closed to all thru traffic during the construction, but access will be maintained for local residents and businesses.
Roadwork in the Eagle Lake area gets underway today (MON). The stretch of Blue Earth County Road 17 from County Road 56 east to Highway 14 will be closed as the widening of County Road 17 begins. A gas line will be replaced in that area over the next few days as well. Traffic on westbound Highway 14 at Blue Earth County Road 56 will be restricted to one lane during construction, and drivers should expect lane restrictions through the fall. Pedestrians can expect sidewalk closures along County Road 17 in Eagle Lake beginning today as well.
