An Albert Lea man whose hand was blown off in an explosion in his underground bunker has been charged with unlawful felony possession of an explosive device. 48-year-old Ronald Irvin Rofshus was making an explosive at his home in October when the blast occurred. He lost part of his left arm and suffered chemical and heat burns. He appeared in court Thursday, and his attorney entered a provisional not-guilty plea and requested 30 days to decide whether to challenge any of the evidence against him. Rofshus reportedly told authorities that he was mixing explosives to make targets that would explode when fired upon. Prosecutors say that he does not appear to be a threat to society.
