Two ATV Accidents On Sunday 14 May 13

A 34-year-old Cologne man and a 4-year-old boy were injured in an ATV accident in the City of Morgan Sunday afternoon. Shawn Wayne Weber was driving the 4-wheeler in the ditch along Redwood County Road 2 and entering onto Reetz Street in Morgan when he apparently hit a washout, causing the Polaris Razor to tip on its side. Weber and his passenger, 4-year-old Ayden Weber, were taken to the Springfield hospital by Morgan Ambulance and were treated for minor injuries and released. The accident remains under investigation by the Redwood County Sheriff’s Office.

A rural Darwin man is facing criminal vehicular operation and DWI charges after an ATV accident that seriously injured a 5-year-old child Sunday afternoon at Thompson Lake County Park west of Cosmos. Thirty-year-old Michael Vollmer was giving his friend’s daughter a ride and was trying to climb a steep embankment when the ATV rolled backward onto Vollmer and the girl. A witness says he tried to help the girl, but Vollmer put her on the ATV and brought her to her grandparent’s house. She was taken by ambulance to a local hospital and later airlifted to Children’s Hospital in Minneapolis with life-threatening injuries. Neither she nor Vollmer were wearing helmets.
