It’s been over a week since more than a dozen railroad cars derailed in the City of Blue Earth, but the cleanup from the accident continues. A total of 17 cars derailed on Sunday, April 28th, and 10 of those cars tipped and spilled several tons of corn. Nobody was hurt when the train derailed, but the cleanup has been slow-going. Crews have replaced an estimated 1,400 feet of track since the accident, and 2 road crossings that were damaged were repaired, but 3 other roads remain blocked and numerous cars are still sitting next to the rails filled with corn. The cause of the derailment remains under investigation as well.
