Nearly 200 firefighters battled a fire at a waste management plant in Norwood Young America this week. Crews from 11 different fire departments were called out to the Carver Transfer Station and Processing Facility on Railroad Street in Norwood Young America at around 11:30pm Monday, and most of them remained on the scene into the next morning. The waste treatment plant’s building was unoccupied at the time, and no one was injured, but the damages are being estimated at over $400,000. In addition to structural damage to the building, a Bobcat, cardboard baler and a payloader were destroyed. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, but is believed to be something as small as hot charcoal in the garbage. A smaller fire had taken place at the same facility last year as well.
