The Minnesota State-Mankato baseball team used a five-run third inning to beat Franklin Pierce College of New Hampshire 10-5 in yesterday’s second-round of the NCAA Division II College Baseball World Series. Franklin Pierce committed three errors in the third inning Maverick outburst, which was highlighted by a double from Bloomington native Nolan Johnson. Lucas Skjefte of Eden Prairie had three extra basehits for Minnesota State-Mankato, including a first inning solo homer. The Mavericks have won ten straight games and 25 of their past 26 contests. MSU-Mankato is now 41-and-8 on the year and will play in the winner’s bracket of the tourney on Thursday. The tourney is taking place in Cary, North Carolina. With a win on Thursday, the Mavericks would earn a berth into the national title game.
