MEMORIAL DAY SERVICES 24 May 13

LOCAL MEMORIAL DAY SERVICES FOR MONDAY

 

NEW ULM: Parade starts at 9am at 5th & 7th South and travels north on German Street. Service begins at 10am at the City Cemetery, at the Civic Center with rain. The program includes music by the New Ulm Municipal Band & the Concord Singers, the Gettysburg Address by recent Cathedral Graduate Nathan Brehmer, the Memorial Address by recent New Ulm Graduate Richard “Fritz” Rieke, and the release of doves.

 

ARLINGTON: Program begins at 8:30am at Memorial Park. The Sibley East High School Band will perform.

 

BELLE PLAINE: Program begins at 11am at Veterans Park. Guest speaker will be Police Chief Tom Stolee. With rain the program takes place at Chatfield Elementary.

 

BELVIEW: Program at 9:30am at Odeon Hall. Guest speaker Deb Hess. Services will be held at the Belview & Rock Dell Cemeteries as well.

 

BIRD ISLAND: Program begins at 8:45am in the school auditorium. The address will be given by Pastor Byron Perrine, with special music by Billy Underwood & Friends.

 

BROWNTON: Service at 10am at Oak Grove Cemetery, with rain at the Community Center. Guest speaker Jim Bartels.

 

CAMBRIA: Services at 9:30am at Morgan Creek, continuing at 10 at the city cemetery.

 

CLEMENTS: Program at 10am at Legion Hall. Guest speaker will be Dan Cudmore.

 

CLEVELAND: Program at 10am at Savidge Lake Cemetery. Guest speaker will be Andy Queen, with music by the junior high band. A bus providing rides to the service will leave the American Legion at 9:30.

 

COMFREY: The parade starts at 10am on the north side of the school & goes to North Park for a short ceremony, then back to the Community Center.

 

DARFUR: Program at 9amat the Legion.

 

FAIRFAX: Program in the school auditorium at 9am, guest speaker Pastor Les Minter. The GFW High School Band will perform, and the Fairfax Honor Guard will have a gun salute.

 

FRANKLIN: Program at 9:30am at Cedar Mountain Elementary. Speaker will be Legionnaire John Rodvik.

 

GARDEN CITY: Services at 11:15am at the city cemetery. The Lake Crystal Legion Firing Squad will participate. With rain the service will be held in the Wellcome Memorial Community Room.

 

GAYLORD: Program begins in the City Park at 10am. Guest speaker will be Deacon Joseph McPherson. The Sibley East High School Band will perform.

 

GIBBON: Service begins at 9am at GFW Elementary. The Children’s March follows the service, followed by a potluck lunch at the Gibbon Community Center at 11am.

 

GLENCOE: Program starts at 10am in the GSL High School Auditorium. Guest speaker will be retired Air Force Lieutenant Colonel Les Canaar.

 

GREEN ISLE: Program begins at 11:30am at the Green Isle Community School. The Sibley East High School Band will perform.

 

HANSKA: Program at 10:30am at the Community Center, followed by a potluck.

 

HENDERSON: Parade begins at 11am down Main Street to Bender Park, followed by the program. Guest speaker will be 3rd District Legion Vice Commander Mike Maxa. The program concludes with the Laying of the Wreath & a 21-Gun Salute.

 

JUDSON: Services at Hebron Cemetery at 2pm with lunch to follow. With rain the service will be held at the Nicollet American Legion.

 

KASOTA: Program at 9am at the Community Center, followed by a 9:30 service at the Kasota Hill Cemetery.

 

LAFAYETTE: Service begins at 10am in the city Mini-Park, if it rains at the Community Center.

 

LAKE CRYSTAL: Services begin at 9:30am at the Secondary School. The Community Band will perform, and the guest speaker will be Sergeant Jared Johnson.

 

LAMBERTON: Program at 10:30am at the Veterans Monument on Main Street.

 

LEWISVILLE: Services at 8am at Trinity Lutheran – Fieldon Cemetery, 8:30 at St. John’s Lutheran South Branch, 8:55 at Ridgelawn, 9 at St. John’s Lutheran Antrim, 9:25 at Antrim Public Cemetery, 9:45 at St. John’s Lutheran South – Willow Creek, and 10:20 at Zion Lutheran – Lewisville. If it rains the Drill Squad will fire at 10:20 at Zion Cemetery, with a special service then being held in the church.

 

LUCAN: Program at 6:30pm at the Community Center. Guest speaker William Klaers.

 

MADELIA: Events include the Laying of the Wreath at Veterans Memorial Park at 9am, a parade beginning at 9:30 at the elementary school & heading down 1st Street to Benzel Avenue & then down Main Street back to the school, the program at 10am in the school auditorium, with guest speaker Sergeant Major Robert Klinkner, and a potluck at the VFW at noon.

 

MILROY: Program starts at 10am at the school. Address by Don Pals.

 

MORGAN: Program starts at 10:30am at Gil-Mor Manor. The Cedar Mountain High School Band will perform.

 

NEW AUBURN: Service begins at 11am at High Island Lake Cemetery. Speaker will be Reverend Harold Storm. The GSL High School Band will perform, and the New Auburn VFW Rifle Squad will have a 21-gun salute.

 

NICOLLET: Service begins at 11am in the city park. A 2pm service will be held at Hebron Cemetery as well. With rain both events take place at Legion Friendship Hall.

 

NORWOOD YOUNG AMERICA: Ceremony begins at 10am at Central Elementary School. Guest speaker is Vietnam Veteran Patrick Logan.

 

PLATO: Service at 9am at the Plato Community Hall. The Memorial Day Address will be given by Captain David Smith, with music by the Glencoe-Silver Lake High School Band and the Plato Community Choir.

 

RAPIDAN: Services at Memorial Park at 9am with guest speaker Sergeant First Class Martin Presley.

 

REDWOOD FALLS: Program starts at 6:30pm at Redwood Valley High School. Guest speaker will be Steven Collins. The high school band will also perform.

 

ST. PETER: Program begins at 10:30am in Minnesota Square Park. The guest speaker is Congressman Tim Walz. Music will be by the St. Peter High School Band, the Govenaires Drum & Bugle Corps, and the Riverblenders. Afterwards the Legion Honor Guard will travel to the Highway 99 Bridge to honor veterans lost at sea.

 

SANBORN: Program at 10am at the new Veterans Memorial. Guest speaker will be American Legion Second District First Vice-Commander Gene Olswold. A pancake breakfast will follow the program.

 

SEAFORTH: Program at 10am at the Legion Hall. Guest speaker will be Samantha Arnold.

 

SPRINGFIELD: Services start at 5pm in the school auditorium. The high school band will perform, the address will be given by Corporal Chris Moritz, and the Legion Rifle Squad will fire a Rifle Salute.

 

STEWART: Program at 10am at the Community Center.

 

TRUMAN: Program begins at 10am in the Elementary School Auditorium. Music by the high school band, student address by Jeremy Smith. VESTA: Program starts at 7:30pm at the Community Hall. Guest speaker will be Ted Suss. Memorial services will be held at the Vesta & Holy Name Cemeteries as well.WABASSO: Program at 10am at the Community Center. Guest speaker will be retired First Sergeant Tom Moore. A potluck will be held at 11:30.

 

VERNON CENTER: Services at 10:30am at the city cemetery, with rain at Grace United Methodist Church.

 

WALNUT GROVE: Program begins at 9:30am at the school. Guest speaker is Maydra Maas. The 5th & 6th grade band will perform.

 

WANDA: Program at 10:30am at the Legion Hall. Guest speaker will be Pastor Dan Larsen, with lunch to follow.

 

WINTHROP: The Winthrop Honor Guard will salute deceased veterans at the following locations and times: Clear Lake Methodist & Bismark Lutheran at 7:40am, Tabor at 7:45, Clear Lake Lutheran at 7:50, St. Peters Moltke at 8, Clear Lake Baptist at 8:05, Augustana Lutheran & Gibbon Catholic at 8:15, Gibbon City Cemetery at 8:25, and Immanuel Lutheran in Gibbon at 8:30.
