A 60-year-old Kasota woman is facing felony theft by swindle charges following a 4-month investigation. Authorities say that Ruth Ann Dutler had tried to borrow money to buy back her foreclosed home. Her brother reported the incident to the Le Sueur County Sheriff’s Office in December. Dutler reportedly asked him to loan her approximately $300,000 to purchase some of her land for an estimated $340,000, and claimed she would pay him back as well as transfer ownership to him to help pay off the loan. The brother then learned that Dutler had apparently asked her daughter to do the same thing, and never planned to convey ownership to either, swindling both of them out of close to $300,000. Dutler’s home in Kasota was destroyed by a fire in January, and the investigation into the cause of the fire continues. She’s expected to make an appearance in court on June 11th.
