The Independence Party holds its state convention on Saturday at St. Cloud State University, and delegates will vote on whether to drop the party’s current prohibition on accepting Political Action Committee money. Independence Party Chair Mark Jenkins says that a number of IP members support eliminating the ban, but also want to make sure voters know the PACs’ names and how much money they gave. He says that that state delegates will also decide whether the party supports legalizing marijuana, and they’ll elect a state chairman and director. The Keynote Speaker will by Hamline University Professor David Schultz, who will talk about the future of third parties.
