An Albert Lea man was charged with criminal vehicular homicide on Tuesday for his role in a head-on crash near Wells last December that left a Mankato man dead. 49-year-old Ronald Hinderman died a day after the December 10th crash on Highway 109 east of Wells. 23-year-old Jared Bowman of Albert Lea was also injured after his GMC Sierra collided head-on with Hinderman’s Chevy Cavalier. A witness reported seeing Bowman looking down at something just before the crash, and prosecutors say it is a case of distracted driving. Bowman was also allegedly going over 70 miles-per-hour at the time of the crash, although alcohol was reportedly not a factor. Bowman is facing up to 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine for the felony charge. He is scheduled to make his next appearance in court on June 3rd.
