A standoff with police in the town of Clarks Grove this week ended peacefully with an Albert Lea man being taken into custody. A Freeborn County Sheriff’s deputy recognized 37-year-old Edward Olmeda on Monday and tried to pull his vehicle over. Olmeda was wanted on several felony warrants, including domestic assault charges. He reportedly led the officer on a brief foot chase before barricading himself in a shed. He claimed to have a weapon and threatened to use it, so a SWAT team was called in, but Olmeda surrendered to authorities before they were needed. Investigators did not find a weapon at the scene. The entire incident lasted just over an hour, and during that time the roads in the small town were blocked off and residents were told to stay inside and lock their doors.
