The New Ulm District 88 School Board appointed a new school board member Thursday evening. Jill Hulke resigned from the board after learning that her home is outside the District 88 boundaries. A total of 5 applications for the seat were received, and the board chose rural New Ulm resident Christie Dewanz. She lives in Linden Township south of Searles, and is involved with the New Ulm Basketball Association, the New Ulm Music Boosters, is a 4H leader, and more. She works for Brown County Family Services, and will now serve on the District 88 School Board until the general election in November of 2014. In other business Thursday, the school board voted to use new operating levy funding for next year to hire 3 teachers in an effort to reduce class sizes.
