Minnesota’s Fishing Opener is just around the corner, causing worry for fishing guides and others faced with ice-locked lakes. This year’s opener is May 11th. Weather and lake observers say there’s still time, but it’s cutting it close. The majority of lakes in northern Minnesota are still covered in ice, but many fishing guides in the area say that anglers can’t rebook their trips in the near future, because the rest of May and early summer months are usually booked solid. The annual Governor’s Fishing Opener takes place in Park Rapids on May 10th and 11th this year, and KNUJ will again be broadcasting from the event.
