An explosion at en energy plant in Shakopee on Thursday rattled windows, shook buildings, and prompted evacuations, but nobody was hurt. Koda Energy and Rahr Malting operate in a joint venture just south of the Minnesota River near downtown Shakopee. The explosion happened at just after noon, and the resulting fire damaged two biomass fuel silos and a conveyor system, as well as a truck unloading facility. Residents within a mile radius of the plant were asked to stay indoors while crews battled the blaze. The full extent of the damage hasn’t yet been assessed. The fire was contained within about three hours, but firefighters could be on scene, making sure it doesn’t spread or rekindle, for several days. There were no hazardous materials involved.
