A drug raid at the home of an Eagle Lake businessman this week led to additional charges being filed, including receiving stolen property, insurance fraud, and possession of child pornography. 50-year-old Scott Michael Schaible made his first appearance in court on Wednesday and was released on bond after the Minnesota River Valley Drug Task Force searched his house just east of Eagle Lake on Monday. Investigators allegedly found around 5 pounds of marijuana in Schaible’s basement, as well as a digital scale and baggies. But as the search continued, authorities reportedly found several items that had been reported stolen from various law enforcement agencies in the area, as well as tools that Schaible himself had recently reported stolen. He had claimed that $13,000 worth of property had been stolen from his business, American Barnwood, in February, and had filed an insurance claim for the lost items. Officers searching his home computer for evidence in the drug investigation then apparently discovered several downloads believed to be child pornography. The computer and digital storage devices found in the house will undergo a full analysis. Schaible faces multiple charges.
