The GFW School Board on Wednesday accepted the resignation of Superintendent Jeff Bertrang and officially released him from his contract with the district, and about an hour later he was officially hired by the New Ulm District 88 School Board. Bertrang replaces retiring District 88 Superintendent Harold Remme, and will begin his duties in New Ulm on July 1st. His starting salary with his 3-year District 88 contract will be $125,000 the first year, with a 1% raise the next 2 years. He’ll also receive 20 days of annual paid vacation, 11 holidays and 18 days of sick leave, as well as health insurance benefits. The GFW School District will now begin the search for a new superintendent, and the timeline for the process and amount of community involvement were discussed Wednesday evening. In other business at the District 88 School Board meeting, the board accepted the resignation of School Board Member Jill Hulke, who recently discovered that she resides outside the district boundaries in rural Courtland. The board will appoint her replacement to serve through November 2014, and applications for the seat are being accepted through Friday, April 19th. Hulke’s replacement may be appointed as soon as the April 25th school board meeting.
