Democratic lawmakers who lead House transportation panels are seeking several transportation tax and fee hikes, including a 5-cent increase in the state gas tax. They want to raise $3.8-billion for road, bridge and transit projects around the state. Besides the gas tax hike lawmakers are also proposing an increase in license tab fees of at least $10, a 4.5-cent increase in the fuel surcharge, and adding the sales tax to more auto parts. Backers say the money will keep the state’s transportation system modern. But Governor Dayton is still expressing doubts about a gas tax hike.
