Law enforcement agencies across the state will be out in full force over the next few days to coincide with the St. Patrick’s Day holiday weekend. The Minnesota State Patrol and local law enforcement officers will be on the lookout for drunk drivers all weekend. Over the past 5 years there have been a total of 11 traffic deaths during the St. Patrick’s Day holiday in Minnesota. More than 1,200 Minnesota motorists were arrested for DWI over that same time period as well. A DWI can result in the loss of your license for up to a year, thousands of dollars in costs, and possible jail time. The best way to prevent drunk driving is to plan ahead and designate a sober driver, call a cab, or stay at the location of the celebration.
