The New Ulm City Council is scheduled to consider changes to the rules concerning serving alcohol at amateur athletic events in the city during its meeting this (TUE) evening. The first reading of an ordinance amending the City Code to allow alcoholic beverages to be sold during amateur athletic events at city-owned facilities and parks will take place today. The city had previously forbidden any alcohol at amateur events, but state law allows for it if all of the athletic participants are over 18, and New Ulm will now follow that state law. In other business this evening, the council will hold a public hearing and approve the specifications and call for bids on the Utility, Street and Alley improvement projects for 2013. There’s an estimated $2.8-million worth of work this year, of which $2-million would be funded through bonding. Today’s New Ulm City Council meeting begins at 5pm at City Hall.
