MN House DFL Budget Proposals 20 Mar 13

Minnesota House Democrats on Tuesday proposed a temporary income tax surcharge on those making over half-a-million dollars a year to pay back public schools for delayed state aid payments. DFL leaders say the House will also pass a permanent income tax increase on the top two percent — Governor Dayton’s proposal — and will go further than Dayton on increasing education spending. They say there will be “significant investments” in early education and all-day, every-day kindergarten. House Republican leaders respond that Democrats want Minnesota to be number-one in higher taxes, which will hurt job creation, and that businesses will pass the costs of increased taxes along to their customers, meaning higher prices for goods and services in Minnesota.
